In 1994 my husband and I made our first overseas journey and flew from Istanbul to Tucson,Arizona to study. One of the farewell gifts we got was a little silver box from our dear friends Sevim and Deniz . Inside there were couple prickly , hairy seeds. (Considering Deniz is a landscape architect and Sevim is a historic preservation architect, “my dear brilliant duo” the gift was anything but unusual. it was also very profound and hilarious at the same time. We loved it. They explained that they were seeds of a Bottle Tree (Brachychiton populneus). A tree that we might spot in the Arizona desert. At the university campus arboretum, I did spot the tree and found the original seed pods that my seeds belong to following winter. It has been 25 years since I found that seed pod. Those seeds in that silver box certainly kept their promise and brought me two babies. Arda and Ekin. Here I finally know why I kept that seed pod for all those years.
